The Poodle is one of the most popular breeds in America. They are alert, intelligent, loyal, active and highly trainable. They are very smart dogs and can learn tricks and be trained very quickly! There are 3 different sizes of Poodles: the Standard poodle, Miniature poodle and Toy poodle. Their temperaments vary slightly among the different sizes.
-Standard Poodles are very energetic, but are more reserved than the mini and toy poodle. Any poodle 15” or taller at the shoulder is considered Standard size.
-Miniature Poodles follow their owners around and are usually the most active of the three sizes. These are usually most suitable for children because of the size. Any poodle 11-15” is considered a Mini poodle.
-Toy Poodles tend to be more ornery and are the smallest of the three varieties. Any poodle up to 10” tall is considered a Toy poodle.
Poodles are very intuitive and can easily pick up on the mood of their owners. They thrive on positive reinforcement, praise and physical attention. They do have hair and so they are non-shedding and non-allergenic; which means they do require grooming at least 4-5 times per year. They make an excellent choice for families of all sizes and ages and are a great breed for first time dog owners.
